Heliotrope, Turning Toward the Light curated by Kymba Nijuck
In Greek Mythology, the water nymph Clytie was betrayed by her lover, the sun god, Helios. Wasting away from his scorn, she transformed into the heliotrope, whose flowers always face the sun. We, too, can waste away from the lack of the sun's attention. We turn towards the sun to warm ourselves. Our bodies create much-needed Vitamin D from the sun's touch on our skin. We turn to the metaphorical light in our search for understanding and meaning through our many and varied means of worship. We turn to knowledge and art to enlighten us.
