From Individual Memories to Collective Memories— Constructing Visual Culture in Hong Kong

The uniqueness of Hong Kong society and culture is shaped by the city’s geographical and historical background. Hong Kong is usually perceived and represented as a metropolis melding East and West, a city promoting consumerism and known for its scarcity of land and high property price. The exhibition features a collection of artworks illuminating the distinctive visual culture in Hong Kong. These pieces explore city life from three different perspectives: the dividual, the community and the collective.

The exhibition features artworks employing a variety of media, spanning painting, photography, installation and sculpture. Varied ways of presentation are used in the artworks to shed light on how the individual responds to city life. The artists also explore social issues through artistic expression, inspiring viewers to explore the intricacies of everyday life. The exhibition intends to offer insights into how to engage ordinary people and objects through the artist's lens. With meticulous observation, viewers might find that things in daily life, big and small, could be a source of inspiration for their creations.
