Upanetha 2024 is a captivating annual photographic exhibition presented by the final-year students of the Image Arts Honours Degree program, part of the Department of Drama, Cinema, and Television (DDCT). Since its inception in 1995, Upanetha has been a platform for showcasing the artistic achievements and innovative perspectives of emerging talents in the field. After a brief hiatus in 2021 and 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition returns in 2024 with renewed energy and creativity.

This year's event features the work of nine students, encompassing a diverse array of artistic expressions. The exhibition includes:

Six Photography Projects, each exploring unique themes and styles:

Nature Colour on Human Face: A fusion of natural hues with human features, highlighting the interplay between environment and identity.
Sports (Dust and Smork): A dynamic portrayal of athletic moments, capturing the raw intensity and movement of sports through a lens of dust and smoke.
Portraits (Faces that Glow in the Dark): An exploration of human expression in low-light conditions, revealing the ethereal and glowing qualities of faces.
Culture (Invisible Tradition): A visual examination of the hidden aspects of cultural practices and their impact on identity.
Natural Textures to Human: An artistic juxtaposition of natural textures with human forms, creating a dialogue between the organic and the human.
Street (Faces in Focus): A series capturing the essence of urban life through close-up portraits of individuals in public spaces.
Two Short Films:

"MA" and "Mark": Each film presents a distinct narrative and cinematic approach, showcasing the storytelling skills and creative vision of their respective creators.
One Detestation:

A Critical Analysis of "Samsara": This academic exploration uses a semiotic approach to dissect the non-narrative documentary "Samsara," offering a deep dive into its symbolic and thematic elements.
UPANETHA 2024 stands as a testament to the resilience and creativity of the students, reflecting their ability to adapt and innovate in the face of challenges. The exhibition promises a rich and engaging experience, offering insights into the future of visual arts and storytelling.
