While there has been significant progress towards HIV since its discovery in the '90s, a lot of the coverage tends to be negative. This is a
global phenomenon with news coverage that has resulted in news avoidance. The solutions journalism framework is changing this by showing media
organisations how to balance their reporting by reporting on responses to various social and public health challenges. This framework helps to rethink the
single story of focusing on the challenges of HIV but going beyond the problems to show efforts to address it.
The photo exhibition will help tell stories of efforts addressing HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. From youth-led interventions to government efforts, the exhibition
will visualise who is addressing the problem, how they are addressing it, evidence of their impact, insights from their work, and any limitations or
challenges they experience from their work. Beyond leveraging photography to show and tell these stories, the exhibition will provide an opportunity to
introduce conference delegates to the concept of solutions journalism, which they can apply to their storytelling or communication activities after the
conference. Delegates will also experience the exhibition in an immersive environment using the Oculus Quest 2 headsets.
The exhibition will help put a human face to the HIV response across regions, from the people leading response efforts at the frontlines to the beneficiaries
of these interventions. It will also show how these interventions make a difference in their lives.
