Tang Dynasty China. Room Two: Mirrors

The Tang Dynasty that ruled China from 618 to 907CE has often been depicted as representing the 'golden age' of Chinese civilization. This exhibition concentrates on the decoration of the bronze mirrors treasured by the elites for an insight into their hopes, beliefs and aspirations, and the iconography for their expression. The ladies viewing the exhibits provide a sense of the prevailing fashions of the day.
Fourteen of the 43 mirrors on display are in private collections and the rest have been selected from sixteen museums spread across five countries.
