Chris Corish Art - Atlas de Zoologie - Solo Show
This series was started around 18 months ago when I agreed to create an animal themed artwork for Bethan Ash’s “Corgis & Coronets” Exhibition celebrating the Queens Diamon Jubilee, I produced a picture of Mr Tom my then girlfriend now fiancée late seizure service dog. This led us to the beginning of Chris Corish Art doing animal portraiture which has been one of our most popular genres of works and birthed our pet portrait commission services. I recently christened the series after an 18th century French book of illustrated animals “Atlas de Zoologie” following the theme of atlases the exhibition takes our visitors around the world, focusing mainly in Australia, and the UK, where much of our current exhibitions are.
Biological illustration of animals is not a new concept or practice and has been around since the 17th century and the age of Darwin and his Beagle voyage which recorded every step of the way. Used as a technical means to communicate the details of an organic structure, animal or species it was created more for practical than artistry purposes. Like many people of recent generations, it does not seem to long since we were thumbing through “Pocket Guides” to birds, animals, fish etc. before the use of internet was more widespread.
The Zoologie series forms much of the basis of this exhibition, and thanks go to my wonderful team for compiling the information in this booklet especially the wonderful Jasmin Ronan who has recently joined the company and is also my fiancée. Jasmin has spent many hours staring into the online world of fun facts to produce this guide and we hope you enjoy it.
