JOHN HITCHENS - Field Works
Fields were my first real subject for painting. Growing up in the country, the view across farmland, towards the South Downs, and later the view looking down at the landscape with patterns of field boundaries and plough lines and paths are recurring themes.
Gradually, these pictures of fields became more abstract. I came to see the subject as an idea in a wider sense.
This exhibition is a summary of different ways in which the idea of fields is part of my work.
