When I'm Gone - I Think My Mother Just Died

The latter are the words my mother spoke to me in the moments after my grandmother, Sheila Asseo’s death in 2019. Those words, transcendent in their ability to image my mother as a child, ignited within me a search for similarly vulnerable words left behind by my grandmother. What follows is a scattered portrait of Sheila’s life; imagery that depicts her presence in the world and words that situate her within it.
