LOVE LESSONS, VOLUME 1

24 May 2022 – 07 Jun 2022

ART MUMS UNITED is proud to present LOVE LESSONS, VOLUME 1 a solo exhibit by CHRISTINE BENT ARTIST BIO Christine Bent is a self taught artist based in New York City. Her work spans from digital art to mixed media wood and wire, with abstract paintings being the most prevalent, using acrylic and tools beyond a paint brush including finger painting. Christine was raised in Queens, NY by parents of Jamaican and Filipino descent, where cultural vibrancy and 80’s street art were intrinsic to her childhood experience. Her upbringing, study of Geography and math, as well as love of travel, music and nature inspires her use of colors, patterns and shapes throughout her paintings. In 2005, Christine began her career as a digital cartographer using aerial photography and terrain models to make maps, and now considers herself a “data” visualist. Since then her relationship with art has evolved from data to emotionally driven, mainly focused around her creative process. In Summer 2021, Christine worked as a gallery assistant for the New Apostle Gallery in Mount Vernon, NY and as a woodworking apprentice making frames. Her recent work was featured at the Affordable Art Fair in New York City, September 2021, “Transcend” Exhibition at Fable Jones Studio in Brooklyn, NY, October 2021 and "Sacrifice" digital exhibtion with MADs Gallery and its two physical locations in Milan, Italy and Fuerteventura, Canary Islands in December 2021. In addition to painting, Christine is currently working on her collection of digital art and development of an NFT marketplace. ARTIST STATEMENT I love to create abstract art and use mixed media, there is something magical about it. Inspired by my son, my approach to art is exploratory and playful. Creation is driven by emotions and intuition, in a space free of rules and full of presence. Through art, I bring into existence what no one has seen before. Starting from a blank slate and mind, I transcend and my process begins. Using acrylic and tools beyond a paint brush including finger painting, I move with the colors. The energy is reminiscent of diverse cultures and nature. Patterns of shapes varying in size are marked throughout my paintings to depict landscape features, life and movement. My working knowledge and familial roots in construction and seamstry inspire me to view objects around me as materials, and repurpose them to create an experience beyond the canvas. Relishing every minute of creation, not only is my artwork a reflection of my creative process, it is an embodiment of who I am. From the moment I hand wrap unprimed textile around the interior frame, prime the canvas, create and varnish, all the way to completing construction of my frame - this is all of me. Art, and its entire experience is magical. IG: @cbently.art

PETER KLARE - COLLAGES JENS LIEBCHEN - L.A. CROSSING

24 May 2022 – 27 Aug 2022

Every picture inevitably asks - apart from everything visible - about the author's position. After all, at the moment of viewing the picture, you find yourself in exactly this spot. In our double exhibition with Peter Klare and Jens Liebchen, both artists are fundamentally concerned with their own standpoint in relation to the photographic motif. While Jens Liebchen's pictures are created as »drive-by-photography« on a year-long drive through Los Angeles, Peter Klare pushes himself with his collages directly in front of the camera lens into pictures from a distant past. We cordially invite you to the opening of »L.A. Crossings« and »Collages« on 21 May 2021, from 1 to 6 p.m. PETER KLARE: Hard-edged lines, overlapping images, positive and negative forms and the unexpected complementation. The monochrome color field on the found footage creates new pictorial spaces. Barriers are piled up and overcome at the same time. While the colored forms make the existing images partially unrecognizable, curiosity is aroused in the viewer. In his new collages Peter Klare inserts works from the »Shapes« series into landscape photographs taken from private family albums. In this way the compositions become mental places of longing for the artist and - in tracing his own identity - as well describe the origin. Like on a chessboard opposing assertions collide, press against and complement each other. Together they form the new image. Peter Klare was born in Jena, Germany, in 1969. He studied painting in Montevideo, Uruguay, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the University of California in Los Angeles. In 2020 the artist was awarded the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. His work receives international recognition and has been shown at the Sprengel Museum in Hanover, at Deitch Projects in New York, and at the Armand Hammer Museum in Los Angeles among others. Peter Klare lives and works in Berlin. To accompany the exhibition the artist's book COLLAGEs will be published in a limited edition of 200 copies. JENS LIEBCHEN: In his series »L.A. Crossing«, which has been in the making since 2010, Jens Liebchen shows us the capital of unconditional automotive mobility like most of its inhabitants prefer to look at it: through the windows of their cars. Out of the moving car, Liebchen looks at a city that embodies the opposites of utopia and dystopia. »L.A. Crossing« itself sounds like the title of a movie, accordingly the street becomes a stage and photography becomes a kind of still image. Bathed in Californian light, the city appears fictitious and real at the same time. Stephen Shore’s image»La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard« serves as a theoretical starting point for Liebchen’s work. Beginning with the »La Brea Matrix Project«, which was centered around said photo, Liebchen has reversed the common view and now looks back from the street to the city. Neither does he stop, like Lee Friedlander in »America by Car«, nor does he follow a strict gird like Ed Ruscha in »Every Building on the Sunset Strip«. Liebchen drives and drives. From the privileged and air-conditioned perspective of the driver’s seat, light and dark sides of the metropolis are revealed. Jens Liebchen (*1970) has worked as a freelance photographer since studying ethnology. His work has been exhibited worldwide and can be found in the collection of the DZ BANK Kunstsammlung in Frankfurt a. M., the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the art collection of the German Bundestag, among others. Liebchen lives and works in Berlin. Liebchen's series »L.A. CROSSING« will also be presented in a large group of works in the exhibition »Hollywood« at the Helmut Newton Foundation from 6 June. On the occasion of the two exhibitions, the book of the same name

13 May 2022 – 31 May 2022

Artist Jiwon Jang is strongly moved and driven by her inner emotional impulses. The painting that came naturally to her during the Covid-19 crisis reflects her moments of introspection. Her materials, brushstrokes, colors and patterns are free and intuitive. The artist paints with emotions, without interruption or without a specific goal. Jiwon Jang wishes above all to transmit her passion and her emotions in immersive and colorful compositions. It is strong emotional drivers such as love, hope and happiness that drive her art.

"idioma visual" by a m a t o

He calls himself "a m a t o" according to his italian family name, born in Sicily and raised in Switzerland. After working in technical engineering for 12 years in the industry, he left to be trained in various art schools in Switzerland and the USA to become a certified art teacher, Yet after less than 3 years he started a career as indipendent artist/painter and worked as back stage painter for theaters and musicals or was just experimenting with small and large paintings. Finally in 2017 until today, he dedicated his entire time to produce art, first at home then in South Spain, where he lives now His paintings have been sold in the USA, Switzerland, United Kingdom Italy and Spain. b. What 'amato' is trying to do is the recapturing of the lost beauty humans once had before they fell victim to what he calls the "state of de-evolution". Beauty still surrounds us, but the language spoken through it has changed.

Claudio Koporossy. La memoria dell'acqua

13 May 2022 – 15 Jun 2022

The artist, born in Lausanne, Switzerland, devotes himself to nature as his first passion and a fundamental element that marked both his life and his path as a photographer. We can describe Claudio Koporossy’s photography as the expression of his sensitivity in a single detail, an immersion in the most intimate essence of everything: a pile of leaves in autumn, the water that penetrates the earth, the colors of the mountains, fruits and flowers from exotic places or more familiar glimpses of life in Venice. The search for detail as that particular hidden at a first glance has always been the artist's point of view on the outside world. Claudio Koporossy immortalizes the essence of everything, allowing the gaze to go beyond the image: we are able to perceive its consistency and savoring its fragrance, this is “Live Nature" in one click.

Naturaleza, paisajes y panoramas. Colección del Museo Franz Mayer

16 May 2022 – 20 May 2024

Naturaleza, paisajes y panoramas.
