Refusing Extraction: Indigenous Futurity Beyond Extractive Capitalism

The artists of this exhibit engage painful histories about the exploitation of Indigenous lands and the resulting harms to generations of Indigenous bodies. By manipulating specific materials loaded with layered symbolism, the works counter often intentionally buried histories and current practices of extractive capitalism and its impacts upon lands and bodies. When put into conversation, these functional objects and portraits present Indigenous responses to extractive capitalism. The works present and grapple with this violence so that communities can heal and ultimately envision Indigenous futurity.
