Kodak Competition and Exhibition
The Stirling Photography Festival is proud to present the online exhibition of the Our World 2020 Kodak film competition, with the generous support of Kunstmatrix.
This competition was launched with Kodak prior to the pandemic, and The Barracks Conference Centre commissioned the winning collection to be hung in their wonderful new venue in Stirling. The entrants were invited to respond to the theme of Our World, then the pandemic hit, and they received their disposable cameras during the UK's first lockdown in early 2020.
The resulting exhibition shares photographs made during these unique times. The collection captures a snapshot of one of the most surreal periods in living memory, of communities in the early stages of the pandemic – providing a record of these unprecedented times, of mask wearing, queueing, empty spaces, and isolation.
As pandemic related restrictions lasted far longer than anyone could have predicted, the opening of the exhibition at The Barracks in Stirling was delayed until August 2021, when it was open to view during our Flow 2021 Stirling Photography Festival. With The Barracks remaining closed for now, this digital adaptation allows us to share this wonderful collection with the public.
Now, with this online gallery, we hope to improve accessibility to the exhibition and to reach a wider audience, allowing not only for people all over to world to view the photographers' work, but also keeping the exhibition alive for years after the physical installation in Stirling closes.
The Our World 2020 exhibition was made possible with generous support and sponsorship from Kodak, Gulabi of Glasgow who developed the films, nettl of Stirling who printed the exhibition pieces, Kunstmatrix, The Barracks who commissioned and exhibited the full collection, our committed volunteers who produced and curated the live and digital exhibitions and, of course, our wonderful exhibitors.
