Colourful women fading, women on the way to or from different places characterises Rashid´s work. Through this metaphor Rashid tells what was really happening in the decades of famine and civil war in Sudan. With the use of colour he calls to attention the role of women maintaining and keeping the rhythm of life. The most affected, the ones who carry the heaviest burdens, are women in these wars, missing husbands, children, fathers and trying to do all that is possible to continue… Rashid tries to capture that moment, that movement towards nowhere. He tries to reflect the classic and ongoing problem in Sudan, which is space, for nomads, farmers, tribes… with Darfur being the best example.

His work is minimalistic with deliberate use of clean backgrounds as a metaphor of the vast desert. He uses vibrant colours, as bright as the traditional clothes of women, called “tobs”. When he sees a simple gathering of women, he sees a walking masterpiece. The strength of women and colour touches and inspires Rashid as an artist.
