Common's People

This is the first of our exhibitions inspired by artists musings. The exhibition was curated around a sound piece where artist Beth Barlow talks about the ownership of nature. The works included look at how the notion that we can own nature affects human toil and strife and leads to devastation like clear cutting in California and disasters like Chernobyl. The exhibition goes on to feature pieces about plastic pollution and then takes a dip into how the commons within towns are owned and populated. A series on rock formations looks at how nature interconnects and functions well on its own and what it might look like it rocks didn't interconnect and give way. Finally the works focus on a character called "I" who went for a walk through nature and had an argument with a neighbour. All "I's" incidents look at individual ego and how it affects our sense of being part of something bigger. All of the works are by artist Beth Barlow apart from a few collaborative works with Simon John and LKYPCG and a painting on homelessness by Simon John.
