"Climate Change: An Eastern Caribbean Journey" - OECS Virtual Photography Exhibition

“Climate Change: An Eastern Caribbean Journey" - A Virtual Photography Exhibition by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

This photography exhibition explores contemporary notions of Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC).

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed the way we engage and interact with one another. It has also influenced other areas of our lives, even how we observe and engage with the Arts.

These changes challenge the Art community to embrace the new technologies.

This virtual exhibition is set up to resemble a modern art gallery, exploring human experiences during powerful moments of climate change in the Eastern Caribbean Islands.

The exhibition features over 30 artists representing six Eastern Caribbean Islands: Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The collection of works was gathered from an OECS photography training and competition coordinated by Saint Lucian photographer, Kirk Elliott. In addition to the photo contest, other photos and art pieces were included.

Yuri Jones of Dominica was awarded the winner’s prize with his piece, “Heading Out”, and his photographs are featured in the exhibition. Other featured artists include: Oji Thomas – Antigua and Barbuda, Daniel Dabriou – Guadeloupe, Marica Honychurch – Commonwealth of Dominica, Dani Devaux – St. Lucia, and Nadia Huggins - Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The exhibition consists of three rooms, with the following headings: Mobility, Human, and Climate. As you journey through each room, the work gathered from the six islands highlight the many impactful conditions that climate change brings to the Caribbean environment.

This exhibition was developed as part of the GIZ Global Programme Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (https://www.giz.de/en/worldwide/67177.html) and curated by Buki R. Cahane of MeCurator.
