Vladimir Gavin (Curated by Margo Grant and Neal Tolunsky)
An architect by profession, Vladimir Gavin was no doubt drawn to the spiritual power of space and geometry, which he explored in his paintings as well as his designs. His tempera paintings are superficially reminiscent of De Stijl and Constructivism (or even Japanese prints), though they have a soul of their own which is beyond classification. His compositions excel at conveying a mood, a philosophy of life, a metaphysical quality which endures in the viewer's mind.
