My journey - My project
In January 2023, nine individuals signed up for my year long ‘Project mentoring’ course. Some thought they had an idea they wanted to make reality, others had no idea and were looking for support to get started. What they all had in common, was a desire to learn, and create a body of work by the end of the year.
What you see on the walls, reflects just a small part of each individual’s journey. Every single set of images is unique, and is the culmination of our time together as a group. Some of the projects are ongoing, and what you see is just a gathering of images from the journey up until this point.
Throughout the experience, I have offered encouragement, ideas, information and support, to encourage self-development, and learning skills, which can be used time and time again to create photography projects of all shapes and sizes. During our monthly sessions we have looked at how to generate ideas, identify opportunities and inspiration. Also, how to work with planning, and working with short and long timescales and small large bodies of work. In addition, we have also learnt how to write about projects and create artist statements.
Although I have been the facilitator and educator, I can not express my gratitude enough to all the group members for their support they have shown each other over the year. I believe some very dear friendships have been made in our time together.
In each room you will find the work of three group members. As you walk around the gallery, please take the time to read the artist statements for each individual. Just as you would in a real gallery or museum, these will give you an insight not only into the projects, but the person behind the images. Some of the stories are very personal, and I feel so proud they are shared here for you
