Waking from a medically induced coma, having sustained a life-threatening head injury serving as an infantry soldier in Bosnia, during 1994, saw my life change within an instant, as realization set in of an altered future were the prospect of a life with long- term care and extended rehabilitation became a stark reality.
Visually impairment and physical disability meant saw over time the emergence of an altered character, with an inner determination and strong will to succeed like no other.

“At Ease” is a photography project which not only captivates the character I have become today, but highlights how I begin to make sense of my unique connection with nature, over twenty- five years on since injury.

Influenced by Ansel Adams, Clyde Butcher, Michael Kenna, and Paul Saunders. I have found that monotone as a tool in unison with my visual impairment provides me with a clearer perspective of the landscape, with light and dark shades detailing the landscape undulation and the abundance of features found there.
