Gleb Skubachevsky | CAMOUFLAGE

Anna Verinskaya

In 2022 Gleb Skubachevsky had to leave his house and move. He has since changed four countries and still wanders around the world. This permanent move forced him to re-think many things, starting from human values to one’s individual reaction to insurmountable circumstances.

During this period and until now, he worked on a project about adaptation of an outsider, displaced by a war, to a new country. The project is called “Camouflage” and currently includes seven artworks. The main idea is the reflection on the topic of war, on one’s attempt to hide, to merge with the environment, to disguise oneself.

The exhibition concludes with the works from the “Aedes” and “Exiguum” series, which also draw on the themes of home and transition that we experience often in these times.

All paintings were created using his own technique that combines acrylic paste and paper on canvas. The surface is therefore texturised with hairy fragments.
