In addition to the works in this exhibit, Accola Griefen is also pleased to present Bang Geul Han's newest large scale commission for the Art on Paper fair, 'Warp and Weft #05' which functions as a material manifestation of the entangled relationships between women’s reproductive rights and questions of class and race. Legislative bills concerning crime and welfare reform from the 80s and 90s, together with 11 state bills passed in 2022 that restrict abortion access, have been shredded and then painstakingly woven together. The pattern of the weave uses an overshot structure, popularly used by women to make coverlets in the USA during the 18th and 19th centuries.

This work is part of an ongoing project by interdisciplinary artist Bang Geul Han, involving hand-woven tapestries constructed from paper printouts of legal documents concerning abortion and anti-immigration memoranda. Accompanying the paper-based tapestries are a photographic series in which the artist wears her sculptural work, making visible the intimate yet often unseen relationship between these legal texts and our bodies and lives.

Following the Art on Paper fair, this exhibit will remain online through fall 2022. To inquire about availability of specific works please contact info@accolagriefen.com .
