CURATOR STATEMENT: Art serves many purposes in the lives of young artists. Whether a means for self-expression and exploration of identity, or as a mechanism to protest social issues and advocate for the oppressed, there is unique power in the visual arts to activate thought and emotion. This exhibition is a diverse collection of over 150 pieces of art from PDSB students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. It captures some of their experiences creating art in what has been a truly unusual year. This show reflects what Peel Board students were and are thinking of, going through, and feeling during this challenging time. We are proud to see how visual arts served so many Peel Board students as they expressed themselves and healed from the many struggles this year imposed on them. We hope you will see the virtual space as a place to pause and engage with the amazing visual voices that are amplified through the diverse work.
