A Solo Art Exhibition exploring Kidney Failure, created by Artist Steve Light AKA SLART. Ticket profits go to Kidney Care UK.

I’m 39 and this is the second time I’ve had kidney failure.

I was first diagnosed in 2003, it was a shock to me as I had no symptoms, but there was a slow decline until I had to have dialysis in 2009.

Fortunately, I only had a year on dialysis and I got a call one fateful evening, 28th December 2010. A deceased donor provided me with the new kidney that I needed and I am eternally grateful to them.

I was recovering well, the new kidney enabled me to take holidays abroad, reach my goal of running 5k and 10k charity races and I even started doing kung fu.

Fast forward to 2021, I started feeling ill, out of breath and very fatigued. My transplanted kidney was failing and this time It hit me hard. I lost my appetite and my tastebuds went strange. I slept for 18 hours a day and I was bloated.

December 2021, I was receiving dialysis again and after a couple of months, I started to feel like myself again.

In the midst of all of this going on, I am hosting my own art exhibition on 21st May 2022 at Artsite and The Post Modern in Swindon.

The main reasons I am running this solo art exhibition is to create awareness for chronic kidney disease, to display my artwork on the same topic, which was very cathartic in creating it and to raise money for Kidney Care UK who have been a real support.

Do you like the exhibition?
