LOOK OUT!

LOOK OUT!

All seven artworks exhibited relate to each other through the coherency of online identity. The exhibition is based on the idea that I want to make people aware of the dangers but also safeties of the internet and how dangerous it could be to show everything of yourself on the internet but also to show how you are protected against the people who are up to no good on the internet. That is why I called the exhibition LOOK OUT!

In my exhibition, you can see a wide variety of different media and styles going from linoleum ink prints on paper to digital photographic manipulation. In my exhibition, I am trying to make people aware of their behavior online on the internet and to give people a look into the dangers and risks of the internet. I want to make people aware that not everything or everyone online is who they say that they are and that not everyone has the best intentions with the private data from others.

For my artworks, I have been looking at multiple issues like identity crisis but the ones that are the most important issues that I have been researching are identity theft and online security. Identity theft is a big problem that not a lot of people are aware of and because of that I wanted to create pieces of art out of it to make the people who watch it more aware of the existence of identity theft. With those artworks, I want to show people the possibilities and dangers surrounding identity theft but also to show the security that exists to protect yourself from identity theft. To make the exhibition more coherent I used specific media like digital manipulation to bring over my message because it is easier to bring over a message when you stay in the same arena wherein you want to send your message.

One of the artworks that brings my message the best is a linoleum ink print on paper showing the face of a boy, but some parts are missing. This artwork is a good representation of the online security aspect of the message that I want to spread. The face of the boy is not fully visible and that is to represent the security that the boy has and thereby protecting his identity from the world. We the viewers are in this case the ones trying to discover the identity of this individual.

This exhibition has been exhibited in a thematic and narrative way and that will say that the works are exhibit in a way that they are in my opinion best communicated. Some of the paintings are closer to each other because they represent the same concept in some way. By placing the artworks in topics, I try to show people the difference between the security part and the criminality part of this exhibition. These artworks are placed within their topic and in their own special area which is being separated from the other area by a concrete wall, I hope this will give the viewer time to reflect on the topic that they have seen before they move on to the next topic in my exhibition. By exhibiting my artworks in this way, I want to show people the dangers of putting yourself on the internet on one side and then on the other side the security that is provided to keep yourself secure while using the internet. By looking at my exhibition I hope that the audience gets the feeling that they need to be more cautious online. Some of the artworks are placed diagonally to the cause and effect of an event, for example, my artwork named “Identity Theft” wherein two thieves are stealing identity and next to this painting you see my other artwork called “The Truth” wherein someone who is a victim of identity theft because the person thinks he is calling with his friend, but it turns out that it is not his friend. In short, is that in “Identity Theft” an event is happening and in “The Truth” there is an effect from the event that happened in the artwork diagonally from it.
