Updating the Art World: The Artists of Instagram

Instagram is a platform that can be used to promote many different groups, including artists. Artists on Instagram reach an audience beyond the institution. Instagram gives artists an accessible platform and, in turn, there is a more popularized audience. The pieces shown in this exhibit display these popularized and ‘relatable’ ideas that grow outside of a museum setting. The impact of displaying popularized art in a museum creates the narrative that art created for a social media platform is equally important as art made for a museum. The artists presented were all chosen in order to show the full range of styles that can become popular on Instagram.
