In 1969, Clyfford Still sold Marlborough-Gerson Gallery seven of his late paintings which he executed at his Maryland ranch. This decision constituted a landmark moment in the artist's career: Still had cut off his dealers entirely in 1951, and this transaction indexed one of the only times his late works entered the commercial art market.
