Yinka Shonibare CBE

Yinka Shonibare CBE is a leading contemporary artist, working to explore post-colonialism in the context of globalisation. Shonibare was born in 1962 in London and moved to Lagos, Nigeria at the age of three. The artist returned to London to study Fine Art at the Byam School (now known as Central Saint Martins), and received an MFA from Goldsmiths. Today, Shonibare works across painting, sculpture, photography, installation and film with his team of assistants, who are required since the artist became paralysed in half of his body after falling ill with transverse myelitis at the age of 17.
