A Woman Confined: A Virtual Photography Exhibition
Curated by Pia Bhatia
A Woman Confined is a virtual photography exhibition featuring the works of girls from high schools across India, including Delhi, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. It aims to explore the different facets of representation and conformity. In this series, these lens-based artists truthfully capture their own experiences and those of other women. In some works, ‘confinement’ is literal (much like what we’re experiencing now), but in others, it is unsaid, and takes the form of physical appearance and circumstance.
As we navigate one of the most precarious times in modern history, many have looked to art as a source of healing and a means for self-expression. We hope to be a part of the art community that is choosing to adapt and make space for artists in spite of their being locked-down.
