Ruth Breen - Fragile Wildness, Fierce Light
We are delighted to present the vibrant and intuitive works of Ruth Breen (Third Eye Arts) in this new solo showcase.
Rooted in colour, nature, and a deeply personal way of seeing, Ruth’s practice invites viewers into a world where emotional resonance, sensory perception, and symbolic meaning converge. Working primarily in acrylics and known for her expressive triadic palettes, she brings florals, animals, and landscapes to life through bold chromatic contrasts, layered techniques, and a fluid blend of fauvism and expressionism.
Ruth’s visual language is shaped not only by her artistic training and creative family background but also by her neurodiversity. As a physically disabled and dyslexic artist, she credits her unique cognitive perspective for sharpening her intuition, enriching her sense of connection to the natural world, and amplifying the emotional depth of her work. Her paintings capture more than what is seen; they reveal what is felt.
Her imagery often centres on nature as a symbolic extension of human experience. In her animal-themed commissions and intuitively developed compositions, recurring motifs appear as guides, mirrors, or energetic signatures. Rather than portraying nature as subject matter alone, Ruth approaches it as a carrier of meaning: a source of inner alignment, resilience, and quiet revelation.
This exhibition brings together works that highlight the evolution of her practice in recent years, including pieces created while she participated in the 2025 VAA OpenSpaces Global Art Trail. Displayed across public and community settings—from town halls to libraries and care homes—her paintings have become part of shared environments where viewers encounter them in moments of daily life. The spirit of accessibility and connection inherent in that project continues here, offering audiences an opportunity to meet her work in a reflective and intimate setting.
Ruth reminds us that colour can shift emotion, that form can hold memory, and that art can act as a bridge between the seen world and the inner life. Her paintings invite us to slow down, observe, and experience the subtle interplay between intuition, imagination, and the natural world—opening a space where beauty becomes a form of understanding, and where creativity reveals its power to heal, illuminate, and connect.
