ISOLATION
Access to HE Art & Design, South Essex College.
On March 20 2020, along with other colleges and schools, we went into lockdown due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Students no longer had access to resources and physical teaching sessions. Many found themselves at home with children and other family members; some were without work for the unforeseeable future, some, as essential workers, had more work than ever, and some were shielding due to pre-existing conditions.
Despite the complications and uncertainty while projects had to be altered, and the group adjusted and responded to the creation of artworks in isolation, this virtual exhibition of 2D visual studies was curated. These deceptively simple works represent more than just a name. They carry with them all the angst, stress, and fear that living in these times has engendered. However, they also convey something of the resilience, spirit and creative pulse of this Access family. Spend some time with each piece and remember that no work of art is created without something of the soul of the artist deeply embedded.
