The Medusa show was inspired by an episode of Alie Ward’s Ologies podcast on Medusology (the study of Jellyfish) and Hubert Gerhard’s bronze sculpture Perseus and Medusa. The artist uses the subject matter as a sandbox in which to explore compositional, graphical and expressionist aspects of his style. In this set of works he deviates from his familiar infographical design driven visuals and leans towards a more straightforward visual with only the diagrammatic sections as visual accents to his subject matter. The expressive lines, scrawls, and swirls of pencils and oil sticks are more pronounced and engage as much real estate compositionally not merely compliments to the illustrated visuals but appear as subject matter in their own right. The Medusa show is an exploration of the artist’s continued artistic evolution as explored within the sandbox of the mythology of Medusa.
