Tegi Barsegian (Curated by Margo Grant and Neal Tolunsky)

Tegi was born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia. As a child, she loved the arts and ballet; her dream was to become a famous ballerina and travel the world (one can still feel the dance-like nature of her bubbling compositions). She graduated from the most prestigious art schools in Armenia: Hakob Kojoyan School of Art, Terlemezian College of Fine Arts and the Academy of Arts and Theater.
These works represent a wide variety of styles, from lilting semi-abstraction overflowing with flora and fauna to a kind of playful, adventuresome brand of surrealism. In her masterful use of color, one is reminded of Kandinsky and Matisse, while her unique subject matter is sometimes reminiscent of De Chirico or Dalí.
Here one enters the enchanting and mysterious world of Tegi Barsegian, who proves in her work to be a storyteller and magician as much as a painter.
