Page Turns: The Art of Picture Books by Julian Plum

Making art for children's books means making art that threads itself around, under, and through every single word to weave a story. Illustrators have to think about the words as well as the pictures. They have to think about colors and characters and pacing, page turns and composition. Page Turns dives deep into the work of making a picture book and explores the process of telling stories through art from sketchbook to picture book through the work of local children's illustrator and teller of stories, Julian Plum. Working in his local studio (a basement with a wood stove, plants, and quite a few paint smears), Julian brings books to life with gouache, colored pencil, and a lot of joy.
