Dean Lucy Diggs Slowe: Her Truth and Service

In the minds of those who know of her, Lucy Diggs Slowe is rightly recognized as one of the fiercest Black woman educators and organizers of the early twentieth century. Previous studies of Lucy Diggs Slowe’s life brilliantly highlight the full range of her achievements, despite the unsurmountable odds she often faced. In the tradition of people of African descent, Slowe was surrounded by a host of close friends and chosen family who loyally supported and encouraged her throughout her important career. This exhibit and its forthcoming book seek to bring forth the humanity of Lucy Diggs Slowe in all her complexities.
